Cyclocross

After our downhill riders kicked some butt last season, Trail Head cycle's XC / CX team (left to right: Derek Batchelder, Sean Rader, Will Cortez) is ready to do the same: this time in different discipline: Cyclocross. It's a very athletic sport that goes throughout the winter season.

XC / CX Group ride
8.00 am at the Old Germantown gate - We'll take Leif Erikson up Saltzman down Firebrake 7 over dogwood down to Erikson back to the car. Should take about 1 1/2 hours. Everybody's welcome!

Bend, OR: "The Lair":

The Central Oregon Trail Alliance (COTA) is putting a small but supersweet freeride / 4cross trail system in just outside of Bend. Heavy machinery is being used, so the trails seem to be there to stay. More info on their site.

DH RACING

Our DH team ripped it up again last weekend, Phil got fasted time again, and Brad came in 4th. East Coast Eric got 3rd in the biggest class of the race, passing 2 guys. Patrick beat himself by 30 seconds for 1st in the beginner classe. Jaegershots and HOOOT DOOOGS.

MTB AREA 1 FUNDRAISER

Don't forget that this Saturday, July 21st, is a Fundraiser for the WTF (Westside Trail Federation) benefitting MTB Area 1 at the Tillamook State Forest. Besides tasty burgers and beverages, and a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new all mountain trail Sickter Lars, THC organized some live music and will have a tent with free demo bikes at hand. The "death zone" usually doesn't start until 18000 ft. altitude, but yesterday it lowered itself just below Mt. Hood Meadows, where Oregon's toughest bike handlers duked it out in a jump contest. Not much media made it down the mountain, but Westside Freeriders and Eastside Bastards both made up the majority of contestants, with 3 pictures of Trail Head Cycles' Riders Jon Young, Darren Johnson and Jason Word posted on WestsideFreeride.com

The EastSide Bastards dropped off their new line of clothing - lifestyle inspired clothing from the original Meldrum gang, a.k.a. the "Dirty Thirty" .

Just learned that one of our BRMBA Freeride Bros, Wade Wadell, has circum some cancer this week. My deepsest condolences to his family and friends. Having lost loved ones myself, I think BRMBA had a really nice idea to remember him and his dedication to the sport we all love so much with a bronze memorial plaque at basic training.

We got a call from PUMP, and guess what's in the working: There's a State Park planned near Vernonia / Scappose, and so far the word supposedly is "Whistler type stunts will be allowed". !!!!!!!
Matt Chesley is from what I know so far working on a Mountainbike Skillpark in Vernonia, and the Vernonia Rails For Trails path will go to Scappoose. Oregon will be an even hotter spot for mountainbikers if all goes well.

We're sorry to see that Ryders, the "other" friendly bikeshop down the road closed it's doors. Danny gave us a sweet deal on merchandise and displays - we had to move walls and our shop increased size by 30 %, we're stocked to the rim with only the best now. Sweet prices, 30% off sunglasses and selected shoes and helmets. All Ryders customers, we're personally endorsed by Danny, and we'd be more than happy to be your "local" shop to get stuff at.

We're now also a U-Haul outlet, a little money on the side to "support the habit".

Patrick Funk, bike guru, now works part time in the service / sales dept. Working in several shops and also having road experience, he knows how to throw it down with his hardtail and DH bike. You have a question, he's got an answer.

Aerial acrobat Drew Mitchell joined our sales team to help out with sales and to handle some of the UHaul stuff. This guy knows how to ride i.e. knows his $hit. I'm glad that customers can be assured that at THC they get the advice they need for their best ride possible.
